Impression Sailing Week 2011

Fifth traditional international regatta Impression Sailing Week 2011 on Elan sailing boats was organized by Burin Yachting Club in co-operation with Elan Yachting and Yacht Club Biograd.

This year’s participation was even bigger than last year. 63 sailboats started in three navigation and technical regattas.

The event which is becoming more and more international was held in Marina Kornati in Biograd.

This year the crews came from Austria, Hungary, Czech republic, Italy and even from Nigeria and United States. The majority of the crews are still from Slovenia and Croatia.

Around 450 people including skippers, crew members, press and other guests had a magnificent time during Impression Sailing Week 2011.

Sailboats were divided in groups Impression, Performance and Cruiser and inside these groups they were divided in smaller groups, depending on the models of the boats. This year’s specialty was the possibility to apply for ORC classification in which 15 sailboats were competing.

Organizer held altogether three regattas.

On Friday there was S wind from 16 to 22 knots, which made the sailing day full of action.

First of the Friday’s regattas was a technical one and the second one was navigational towards the finish line in front of the marina entrance in Biograd. The results of strong wind were some accidents on the regatta field and many thoren sails but also many good placements. All crews had to show all of their sailing knowledge and technical skills to manage to finish the regatta.

Friday night there was Orange Jagermeister party with ReCover Band ft. Ivana Marić.

Saturday’s program started a bit later. The sailors were woken by even stronger S wind than on Friday. After a brief skipper’s meeting the Elan fleet sailed to regatta field where the first technical regatta was held on strong S wind between 21 to 30 knots. Because of the participants safety there could be only one regatta on Saturday.

In overall classification in Performance class third place went to Krka (Elan 410) KonTiki Slovenia steered by Sebastjan Levstik. Second place was earned by Elan.Ka II (Elan 350) Elan racing Team Slovenia with Tomaž Čopi at the helm. By flawless sailing of JK Loka Timing with Karpo (Elan 450) steered by Dušan Ušeničnik came to take the gold from Elan Racing Team, which they have won on last year’s Impression Sailing Week. The Transitional Cup is in the form of a 35 kg wooden steering wheel.

In Impression class third place went to Sumba (Impression 434) Quicksilver Team Slovenija with Aleš Škrjanec at the helm. Second place was earned by DeBella (Impression 434), Nautronic Team Slovenia steered by Boštjan Kovačič. Victory in Impression class went to Evolution (Impression 444) Neptun Yachting Slovenia with Iztok Svetina as their skipper.

After all the cups were given away Pirate Foam Party broke loose with Free Way band.

The regattas held by Burin Yachting Club and Elan Yachting became well known for generous prizes. This year they gave away Elan skis, three days and a week’s sailing and many other technical equipment and sailing gear.

The organizer received praise from participating crews for good organizing. Next year there is going to be a three-day sailing event between November 8th and 11th 2012.
